When Will Things Continue By Lori Romero

For we all know
They will never be the same
In the garden
My garden
With a stunted view
Of a huge city
Some day we will sit in the park
Under the broad cherry blossoms
Or by candlelight in our favorite restaurant
Watching passersby on the other 5th Avenue
And remember that rainy night
With no lights on Broadway

For we all know
They will never be the same
In the families
My family
With the disparate views
Of a world in crisis
Tomorrow we will sit in a café
Halfway across the globe
And dream of home
With our holiday feast
Spread across the table
An edible jigsaw puzzle
And remember how
Differently we learned to love
